UNM Jazz Combo Camp

Summer 2024

UNM Jazz Combo Camp will be held June 24-28, 2024.

UNM Jazz Combo Camp is a great way to work on your jazz “chops” over the summer! It’s an immersive jazz workshop that includes performances, workshops, jam sessions, master classes and more, offering a curriculum that covers jazz style, improvisation, theory, ear training, and performance through daily combo rehearsals and a final concert.

UNM Jazz Combo Camp is a day camp for middle and high school students who have been in their school jazz band for at least one year, or for those going into grade 8 and above.

The schedule runs from 10am to 3pm each day, with a drop off time of 9:30am – 10:00am and a pickup time of 3:00pm – 3:30pm. Instrumentation includes all wind instruments, guitar, piano, bass and drums. The faculty includes UNM Jazz Studies professors Glenn Kostur and Chris Buckholz.

Cost for the week is $250, which includes tuition, lunch each day and a camp t-shirt. A non-refundable deposit of $125 reserves your place, with the balance due by May 24, 2024.

Students are advised to register on one instrument only. This should be the instrument on which they feel most comfortable. Students registering on more than one instrument will be placed on an instrument according to instrumentation needs of the camp. Once placed, students will NOT have the option of changing instruments.

Drummers MUST provide their own drums. Guitarists and bassists MUST provide their own amplifiers and cables. If you play a bari sax, bring a bari with you.

Due to the nature of the camp, slots for each instrument are limited. Some instruments fill quickly and ALL slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Register early to insure a place.

ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY May 24, 2024.
