Curriculum Vitae

Paula Corbin Swalin, soprano, is a devoted instructor and voice faculty member at the University of New Mexico where she teaches vocal pedagogy, advanced vocal pedagogy, vocal repertoire, film music history, and coordinates collaborative outreach focused on students’ vocal health. A native New Mexican, she’s honored to serve in her home community, where generous family and teachers helped her discover joy in music. Ms. Swalin strives to share that same joy with future musicians and educators. A hallmark of her teaching is to champion underrepresented composers, introduce unique repertoire, and promote works which honor students’ cultural heritage.

Her performance credits include Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Schumann’s Spanisches Liederspiel, Op. 74, J. S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion, C.P.E. Bach’s Magnificat, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s C Minor Mass and Requiem, Lili Boulanger’s Clarières dans le ciel, and the songs of Frederic Mompou. A particular focus of her research and study is adult learning in online modes and the brain’s role in singing and motor learning tasks. She is a trained Singing Voice Specialist (NICEV). Ms. Swalin’s students advance to prestigious post-secondary programs and are active performers and respected music educators in the United States and abroad.
