Orchestra
EnsemblesThe UNM Symphony Orchestra program has been in existence for more than fifty years. It constitutes one of the most important cultural student organizations on the campus of the University of New Mexico and is open to all students regardless of academic major
Both the University Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonia rehearse in the UNM Center for the Arts. The University Symphony Orchestra presents an average of nine concerts every year. These performances range from major symphonic repertoire, works for chorus and orchestra such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Orff’s Carmina Burana, to an opera production in conjunction with the UNM Opera Theater. The Sinfonia is UNM’s newest string ensemble, providing a place for the serious player to explore classic and contemporary repertoire. Open to majors and non-majors; membership is by audition.
