NM Organ Instructor to make Carnegie Hall Conducting début

Dr. Maxine Thevenot, who teaches organ in the UNM Department of Music will be making her Carnegie Hall conducting début on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in a concert that brings together choral and orchestral musicians from across America, including members of local Albuquerque and Santa Fe choirs, such as The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John, The Bosque School, Albuquerque Academy, alumni from the University of New Mexico, and others. She will be conducting the Requiem of French composer Maurice Duruflé.

Duruflé’s sublime setting of the Requiem, Opus 9, brings together the New England Symphonic Ensemble, comprising 65 orchestral musicians, two distinguished soloists, and a choir of over 200 singers from across America, under her direction. The concert will be dedicated in memory of Stephen Pu.
