The UNM Department of Music is delighted to announce the first award from the new Franklin Garber Endowed Scholarship in Music to Sofia Martin, a freshman who is majoring in Music Performance, with an area of concentration in cello. Martin studies with Assistant Professor of Cello, Christoph Wagner.
The scholarship was established in the memory of Franklin Garber by his daughter, Christi Garber. Christi earned her BBA and Master of Accounting from The UNM Anderson School of Management and is currently the Tax Director and Senior Vice President at Hamilton Insurance Group in New York City. Christi studied the violin as a child until she graduated from Cibola High School and credits her father’s influence. Franklin Garber was an accomplished and dedicated musician, and especially loved playing the guitar for his friends and family.
The Franklin Garber Endowed Scholarship in Music supports students studying string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass or guitar), and may be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students.
