Darci Balkcom is an Alexander Technique teacher, voice teacher, and mezzo-soprano based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance from the University of New Mexico. In her specialty of Alexander Technique she holds a 1600-hour teaching certificate in Alexander Technique through the Contemporary Alexander School and an additional certification from Alexander Technique International. For over ten years, Darci has taught musicians, actors, and dancers worldwide. She has led workshops and retreats internationally, including in Berlin and Mexico. Darci has taught Alexander Technique residencies at several U.S. universities and summer programs including teaching for the Montecito Music Festival for five years, Oberlin, University of Alaska, Santa Fe Opera, and University of Texas El Paso. For six years, Darci taught Alexander Technique to musicians online and in person through Mindbody Music School as a primary faculty member.  With experience teaching on two different Alexander Teacher training faculties, Darci is starting an Alexander Technique teacher training in Albuquerque, NM. Darci has published work on Alexander Technique and acting for singers and enjoys teaching musical theatre, music appreciation, and Alexander Technique at the University of New Mexico. Darci has continuing education in Alexander Technique for Actors through Dell’Arte International and a Functional Anatomy Certification, LIVING IN A BODY™.

 As a professional performer, Darci has sung Oratorio and opera with groups such as Boulder Symphony, New Mexico Philharmonic, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico, and Quintessence. In 2009, she had her international debut with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy. Her most notable opera and musical theatre roles include as a townsperson in Zozobra: The Revenge, Florence Pike in Albert Herring, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Mercedes in Carmen, Terentia in Beautiful Bridegroom, Miss Pinkerton in the Old Maid and the Thief, and Cherubino in Le Nozze de Figaro. Darci has been the featured mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C, Hadyn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Bach’s Cantata 161. She has studied with coaches and teachers such as Olga Perez Flora, Michael Hix, Adriana Hardy, Neil Rosenshein, and Nina Hinson, and Leslie Umphrey.
