String Pedagogy
Our Program ConcentrationsString Pedagogy
The UNM Department of Music offers both the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in String Pedagogy. Students in these programs study privately with the UNM string faculty and perform in the UNM Symphony Orchestra. Generous scholarships and graduate assistantships are available, as well as dual concentration degree pathways in String Pedagogy and Instrumental Performance. The curriculum is rigorous and comprehensive, including the teaching techniques and philosophies of renowned string pedagogues such as Tanya Carey, Susan Kempter, Paul Rolland, Shin’ichi Suzuki, George Vance, Mimi Zweig, and more in addition to interdisciplinary topics and their relationship to music teaching and learning. As part of the coursework, String Pedagogy students earn Certification in Paul Rolland String Pedagogy and gain hands-on, real-world teaching experience as interns with the UNM String Lab School.
All students of the violin, viola, cello, and double bass are encouraged to apply. Contact Dr. Aaron Jacobs at aaronjacobs@unm.edu for more information.
