Majel Connery is a musicologist, composer, and performer whose work bridges scholarship and creative practice. She holds an A.B. in Music from Princeton and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Chicago, and has taught at Stanford, UC Berkeley, Princeton, and Wellesley, specializing in opera and music of the 19th and 20th centuries.

As a composer, Connery’s work fuses electronic sound with the human voice to express the vitality of the natural world. Her choral work The Rivers Are Our Brothers has been recorded by Chanticleer, and her song cycle Elderflora—on the life and death of a tree—premiered at Seattle Symphony/Octave9. As a public intellectual, Connery is the creator and host of two acclaimed podcasts, A Music of Their Own (NPR/CapRadio) and Reverberations (New Amsterdam Records).
