Anne Martin is assistant professor of instrumental music education at the University of New Mexico. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Music Education, Teaching Reading in the Music Classroom, Brass Techniques, Instrumental Music Methods, and Secondary Student Teaching. She values continued relationships with P-12 schools in the community and strives to be a resource for in-service music teachers.

Dr. Martin received her Ph.D. in Music Education from Michigan State University. She holds an MME from Florida State University and a BME from the University of South Carolina. Her scholarly interests include accessibility and inclusion in the music classroom, with topics including disability in marching band and teacher perceptions of divisive concepts laws. Her dissertation, titled Harmonies and Hierarchies: A Critical Exploration of High School Band Culture, examined how high school band students and directors negotiated the traditions, norms, values, and hierarchies present in their band classroom. She has presented research at the NAfME Teacher Education and Research Conference, the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium, the IMTE Biennial Colloquium, and the Big Ten Academic Alliance Music Education Conference. She is also published in the Journal of Research in Music Education and Arts Education Policy Review. Prior to teaching at the college level, Martin taught middle school band, choir, and jazz at Westborough Middle School in South San Francisco, California.

In addition to her scholarly work in music education, Martin enjoys being an active oboist and soprano singer in a variety of community music groups. When she is not making music, Martin enjoys spending time with her husband Chris, her son Patrick, and her dog Pancake.
