Keys

Obtain key requisitions from the Keller Hall Manager, Tori Weller.  You will then have to take the “green card” (key requisition) to the UNM Lock Shop to get the key.  Be sure to take your faculty ID card and your driver license also.  There is no deposit required for faculty, but you will have to pay a fee if you lose your key.

Your office key should open all of the classrooms (but not Keller Hall).  Your key should also open the north entrance to the building, opposite the Student Union.  If your office is on the second floor, your key should also open the faculty restrooms.

If you are involved with an ensemble, you can request a key to the “Stand Room” in the basement where the department music stands are kept.  Please return the stands to the storage room as soon as your class is over.

mail

The Department mailing address is:

         The Department of Music
         MSC04 2570
         1 University of New Mexico
         Albuquerque, NM  87131-0001

There are a series of codes that must be used for campus mail, and different labeling for outside addresses.  Please be sure to bring all of your outgoing business mail (both on- and off-campus) to the Department Office, not the Fine Arts Office, for proper processing.

Faculty mailboxes are located in 1103.  Inquire there about getting a box assigned to you.

UNM stationery can be obtained in the Music Department office.

e-mail

E-mail is an effective way to communicate with colleagues in the Music Department.  A UNM e-mail account can be established through CIRT (Computer and Information Resources Technology), located at 2701 Campus Blvd. NE, phone 277-8140.  You can set up an account at the CIRT office, or at any of the computer facilities (called pods) around campus.  The pods most convenient to the music building are in the basement of the music building, at Johnson Center (the gym) and in the Student Union Building.  Consultants are on duty at the pods; hours vary.

FAX machine

Sending:

The Department has its own FAX machine; this is the only authorized means to send a FAX for Department business.  The Department cannot reimburse faculty for a FAX sent using the College FAX machine.  You can use the College machine if you wish to pay for it yourself.

Receiving:

The receiving number for FAX correspondence is (505) 277-0708.

PHONE USAGE

Dialing:

To call numbers on campus (277- or 272- prefixes), dial only the last 5 digits.
To call a number off campus, dial 9, then the number.

Long-Distance Phone Calls:

All long-distance phone calls charged to the Department of Music on your office phone must be for Department business and are monitored by the Chair on a monthly basis.  Please try to limit the length of your calls to under ten minutes and try to never exceed twenty.  International calls are very expensive; use FAX or e-mail if at all possible for international correspondence.

You may make personal long-distance calls using a phone credit card; dial *70, then the area code and phone number desired.
It is not possible to call Information from your office phone and have it charged to the Department.  However, you can access Information if you pay for it with a telephone credit card.  Dial #80, plus the area code, plus 555-1212, plus your calling card number.

Phone Books:

Albuquerque phone books are delivered in the fall to Room 1103.  Watch for them. The UNM Campus Directory is also published annually in the fall.  Copies are distributed in the Department.

business cards

These are available through UNM Printing Services.  Two different styles are available.  See the Department Administrative Assistant to order cards for yourself.

faculty concert passes

Faculty will be issued punch cards ("comp cards") that allow free admission to Department of Music events.  Each number represents an event, and when punched will allow you two free tickets to that event.  Tickets may be obtained in advance at the ticket office in the UNM Bookstore, or at the Center for the Arts Box Office immediately prior to a performance.  You will need to present your comp card to receive your free tickets.

Faculty who perform in a Music Department concert are entitled to ten free tickets.  Please e-mail your list of guests at least 2 days prior to the performance to the Keller Hall Manager, Tori Weller; guest comps may be picked up at “will-call."

purchase requisitions

Purchase Requests are used either to purchase from on-campus suppliers or to request that a Purchase Order be issued by the Purchasing Department to an off-campus supplier.

Purchase Request Forms ("Blue Forms") (PDF, 640KB) are available in the Department office; fill out and give to the Department Accounting Technician, Carola Bounkeua.

::back to top::

honoraria

To request an honorarium for a guest clinician or lecturer, you will need to fill out a Purchase Request Form as well as an Honorarium Information Form (PDF, 216KB).   Both of these are available in the Department office. Fill them out and give them to the Department Accounting Technician, Carola Bounkeua.

photocopies

The copy machine in the Music Department office is for use by office personnel only.  Please ask the Department Administrative Assistant to make copies for you.  Requests for copies for class needs should be submitted 48 hours in advance.  Last-minute copying requests may be refused by the office staff.

Copying needed for classes should generally be restricted to exams and a few minor or emergency copying needs that arise.  If you are going to be copying many materials, you are obligated to go through a printing service like Kinko’s and have them sell students booklets of all copied course materials.  There are several people who will deal with copyright issues there.  If you would like to have handouts photocopied and published for students to buy for your class, see the Department Administrator, Barbara Boehms.

Copy machines are also located in the Fine Arts Library.  You can purchase “copicards” that can be used in the machines instead of cash.

There is also a copy machine in the College office (1103).  You can set up a personal account and be billed each month for your usage.

sound and video equipment

The Department has portable sound equipment available from for your classroom use.  This includes a boombox and several carts with CD/tape players and speakers, as well as one with a turntable.  These can be checked out through the Department Administrative Assistant.

Rooms 1111, 1108, B015, B117, FRH (formerly B120) and 2100 all have "monoliths" (permanently installed cabinets) that contain sound equipment.  You will need to check out a key from the Department Office. For training on how to use the equipment, contact Manny Rettinger.

Another source for equipment is Media Technology Services (277-6151), located in Woodward Hall.  MTS provides faculty with a variety of audio-visual classroom aids on a check-out basis.   This includes tape recorders, cassette players, turntables, slide projectors, overhead projectors, film projectors, VCR’s, TV’s, laptop computers and LCD projectors for classroom use, etc.

All main campus classrooms are now equipped with a television, VCR, and overhead projector.  MTS will issue remote controls to any faculty members who wish to use this equipment on a semester basis.  Several of the classrooms in the Music Department now also have TV carts.

Regarding all other equipment, MTS will no longer deliver or pick up items.  You will have to pick up these items yourself from one of the various Audio-Visual Annexes on campus.  The most convenient Annex for our department is in Woodward Hall; others are located in Mitchell Hall, the College of Education and Dane Smith Hall.  All Annexes are staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with trained staff who can check out equipment and assist with problems.

Film and video services are also available through the university.  Call 277-8834.
