ScholarshipS AVAILABLE TO MUSIC STUDENTS

The following available scholarships from endowments are assigned to music students. All are available on a continuing basis, but students do not normally apply for these on an individual basis. In addition, the Department of Music regularly awards Department of Music scholarships as part of department operating expenses.

ANDERSON
Michael Hallvard Anderson Memorial Scholarship—for a sophomore-senior, majoring in music and concentrating in guitar or composition, major or minor, demonstrating ability, 2.5 GPA, and some financial need.

ANDERSON
Michael and Eric Anderson Memorial Scholarship—for a sophomore-senior, majoring in music and concentrating in guitar or composition, major or minor, demonstrating ability, 2.5 GPA, and some financial need.

ANGEL
Angel Music Scholarship—full-time undergraduate or graduate music or music education major, talent, academic achievement and financial need. Specifically for students of Hispanic ethnicity majoring in music or piano.

BAND
UNM Band Endowment—additional financial support at the discretion of the Director of Bands to used for band activities, special projects, scholarships, and fellowships for band students.

BATCHELLER
John Batcheller Music Endowment––Music Education majors with 3.2 GPA who want to educate students at the elementary school level.

COMMUNITY CONCERT
Community Concert Award in Music—Music Major.

DEANS-BARRETT
Dr. E. A. Deans-Barrett Cello Scholarship—applied cello music major.

DOLDE
Lilian Dolde Music Scholarship Fund—major or minor in music with 3.0 GPA.

FLORA
Carolyn M. Flora Memorial Scholarship—for full-time graduate student in music education.

FRANCK
Abraham Franck Music Fellowship—graduate students studying music, who shall be members of a graduate string quartet selected through a national competition and maintain a GPA of 3.0; notify Abraham Franck.

FREDERICK
Kurt Frederick Memorial Music Fellowship—graduate student in music studying violin, cello, or bass, selected by audition, also with NMSO.

FRIENDS OF MUSIC
Friends of Music Talent Awards—given by Friends of Music to exceptional music majors.

GARCIA
Hector Garcia Guitar Scholarship—support for guitar scholarship.

GARDENSWARTZ
Gardenswartz Family Endowed Scholarship Fund for Applied Voice—applied voice major, either upper division or graduate student, preferably in opera program, 3.0 GPA.

HAYS
Martha Harrison Hays Memorial Music Scholarship—junior, senior, or graduate student, music education major, piano emphasis, academic excellence.

JONES
Scott Lakin Jones Memorial Fellowship—full-time music graduate students.

KELLER
Walter & Louise Keller Memorial Music Scholarship Endowment—full-time undergraduate or graduate music student with GPA of 3.0, financial need.

MARTIN
Parker Martin and Alta Mae Ryther Fields Scholarship Endowment—Classical music student (Beethoven, Chopin traditions).

MARYMOUNT
Marion S. Marymont “Music” Presidential Scholarship—Awarded like all Presidential Scholarships through the Financial Aid Office.

MCKELVY
Charis Ann McKelvy Memorial Scholarship—administered by the College of Fine Arts, preferably a sophomore, enrolled in CFA, majoring in music (Arts, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts), selected with assistance of Dean, 3.0 GPA, must be a resident of Albuquerque and have graduated from Albuquerque Public School system.

MORELL
Pedro Morell Memorial Scholarship—M.M. student in Classical Guitar, 3.0 GPA, but Junior or Senior possible, recipient is to be known as the Pedro Morrell Scholar.

MUSIC
Music Department Award.

NIERMAN
Clara Nierman Memorial Endowment—UNM Symphony Scholarships.

NITSKE
Betty Fugatt Nitske Memorial Scholarship Fund—Music—major in voice, piano, organ, or music education, with preference for Sigma Alpha Iota and juniors and seniors, financial need and 3.0 in music with 2.0 GPA.

PRESSER
Theodore Presser Foundation Scholarship—for seniors, music major; merit is sole consideration with award-winner labeled a “Presser Scholar.”

QUEEN ELIZABETH OF BELGIUM
Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Scholarship—for music majors.

ROBB
Harriet & John D. Robb Scholarship—full-time music majors either in performance or composition, musical ability and talent: no notification indicated.

ROBERT
George Robert Piano Prize Endowment—full time undergraduate or graduate student in piano; talented student of special ability should be identified as holding the Robert Prize.

ROTH
Muriel Roth Memorial Scholarship—full-time upper division undergraduate or graduate student, concentrating in composition or piano.

SCOTT
Scott Baum Memorial Scholarship/Albuquerque Music Club—UNM full-time music majors, ability and talent are priorities.

SIMMS
Albert G. Simms Music Scholarships [3-73067]—for music major studying strings, renewable with faculty approval.

STUMP
Nancy and Howard Stump Endowed Scholarship Fund–Annual scholarship; recipients must demonstrate: talent in instrumental music, financial need, academic achievement of 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale, and be enrolled as an incoming freshman in the CFA.

SWEARINGEN
Addie Swearingen Music Scholarship—for music major with financial need. Must have been in the upper one-third of his or her class during the former academic year. The original recipient is eligible for renewals of this scholarship so long as he or she meets the stated qualifications.

VAN STONE
Berta Hurt Van Stone Memorial Scholarship—for music major.

VEDELER
George F. and Mary Margaret Vedeler Endowed Music Scholarship—for junior or senior music majors, full-time, 3.0 GPA, who demonstrate financial need and achievement.

WHITEHEAD
Samuel & Jetty Rosenwald Whitehead Scholarship Fund—for students in CFA with music emphasis.

YEPSON
Yepson & Farnam Endowment Scholarship—for music students with 3.4 GPA.
