ASSISTANTSHIP IN ELEMENTARY MUSIC EDUCATION


Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Music Education
  2. Successful elementary school music teaching experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach a minimum of four one-hour classes per week during fall and spring semesters for the UNM Music Prep School.
  2. Assist with administration of the Prep School.
  3. Assist with the music education program at UNM as needed and in accordance with recipient’s background and qualifications.
  4. Recipient must be enrolled in the Master of Music in Music Education degree program during the term of the appointment.

Stipend: This is a two-year (four-semester) full assistantship, with total workload of 20 hours per week.  Contract is by semester, but renewable if work is satisfactory.  The stipend is approximately $6,100 per academic year, in addition to a waiver of tuition (exclusive of special course fees) for up to 12 credits per semester (does not apply to summer tuition).  Any additional hours, including summer coursework, can be taken at the resident rate.

Application Deadline: Submit Graduate Financial Application Form and all admission application materials by March 1.

Additional Requirements: To be eligible for an assistantship whose duties involve teaching, an international student must demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by the TOEFL: A minimum score of 250 on the computerized version of the test will be required (equivalent to 600 for the paper-based or 100 for the internet version).
