The UNM music faculty is composed of 63 full-time and part-time faculty, and includes internationally and nationally recognized performers, composers and scholars who also have distinguished teaching careers. Their areas of expertise include performance (both instrumental and vocal), music history and literature, theory and composition, string pedagogy, music education, contemporary world music, arts-in-medicine, early music, mariachi, flamenco guitar, collaborative piano, jazz, music technology, and more. Members of the faculty act as mentors to students and assist in advising them in their course of studies. Students in the music program are coached by faculty who are themselves active performers, among them members of the New Mexico Winds Woodwind Quintet and Trio New Mexico, both renowned faculty ensembles in residence.
