New Mexico Brass Quintet

The New Mexico Brass Quintet

From the Liner Notes:

Founded in 1977, the New Mexico Brass Quintet is in residence at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Quintet has toured throughout the United States, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Mexico. They have performed for national and international conventions, including the National Music Educator’s Conference, the Manhattan Brass Symposium, and the International Trumpet Guild Convention.

The Quintet is well-known for its commissions and performances of new music. Over the past ten years, they have premiered over thirty new works from composers throughout the world, including those by Cheetham and Luedeke on this recording. In 1986 the National Endowment for the Arts awarded the Quintet a $20,000 consortium commissioning grant, along with the Louisville Contemporary Brass Quintet and the Chestnut Brass Company, to commission four major American composers to write significant works for brass quintet. Works by Warren Benson, Richard Wernick, and Eric Stokes will be premiered in 1987 and 1988.
