Susie Fritts, Assistant Professor of Horn, has taught and played the Horn on three continents. For three years, she taught instrumental music during the school days in Melbourne, Australia and in the evenings played with groups including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Elizabethan Trust Melbourne Opera Orchestra, and the Australian Symphony Orchestra. She lived in Germany for six years, performing operas with orchestras including Landestheater Detmold, Staatstheater Kassel, Cologne Opera, Philharmonia Hungarica, and off-stage Horn with Bayreuth Wagner Festival Orchestra. Ms. Fritts was also a member of several authentic Hunting-Horn groups. In addition she has held positions as Principal Horn with the US Army Field Band in Washington, D.C. and Second Horn in the Jacksonville Symphony (FL) and has also performed as Utility Horn with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Music Festival. Susie’s other teaching posts have included positions as Horn Instructor at Montana State University, the University of Montana, Metro State College of Denver, and the University of North Florida. She has coached the Horn sections of theYouth Orchestras of Melbourne, Missoula, Albuquerque, Jacksonville, and Denver.
Ms. Fritts earned her B.A. in Music Education at St. Olaf College and her M.M. in Horn Performance at Northwestern University. She tributes Gerd Seifert, former Principal Horn of the Berlin Philharmonic, as being her most inspiring teacher/mentor.
Susie is a member of the New Mexico Winds, the New Mexico Brass Quintet, and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
