Joanna de Keyser, cellist and professor emeritus of the University of New Mexico, has performed as soloist and in the chamber music capacity throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico City, since winning a medal in the Geneva International Competition with Marilyn Neeley, pianist.
Her solo performances in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, Guadalajara and Mexico City have received high acclaim from major music critics.
The London Times said of her playing, “she can project long cantabile melodies easily and spontaneously, yet with a nicety of phrasing which unites her intentions absolutely with those of the composer.” The critic for the Los Angeles Times Commended her mastery of “tortuous technical hazards,” and said of her playing, “… the array of tonal color and precisely realized effects constituted a genuine tour de force.
