Percussion Ensemble

The UNM Percussion Ensemble has a long and important history at UNM. Students enrolled in percussion ensemble will perform the works of major composers such as John Cage, Lou Harrison, Henry Cowell and Carlos Chavez, contemporary mallet percussion works, and various African and Afro-Cuban styles of drumming. Each semester the group presents a concert in Keller Hall on the UNM campus.

In addition to the concerts given each semester the group has performed at several Percussive Arts Society International Converntions, most recently in 2002 when the group performed Third Construction by John Cage for the PAS Focus Day: Retrospective of Percussion Ensemble Literature of the 20th Century and on the ¿Marimbas of the World: Africa to the Americas¿ clinic presented by Steve Chavez. Also in 2002 the ensemble was invited to perform as part of the International Festival of Percussive Arts Perkusja in Warsaw, Poland.
