  3. Students must choose repertoire that does not exceed 20 minutes in length, including all orchestral tutti sections. A student may choose to perform a single movement concert piece, an aria (for singers),or a single movement (or  combination of movements) from a larger work in order to fit the allotted time stipulations.

  4. All repertoire must be performed from memory.

  5. The competition will take place during the Fall semester, preferably in October. Competition winners will perform with the UNM Orchestra during the same academic year.

  6. There will be three judges, not UNM employees, who will choose 1 or 2 winners to perform with the UNM Orchestra. Honorable Mention may be awarded, but this student will not perform with orchestra. The decision of the judges is final.

  7. The UNM Orchestra conductor reserves the right to request the student to perform different movements or repertoire, should extenuating circumstances cause the original repertoire to be deemed inappropriate or impossible to obtain.

  8. It is the student’s responsibility to secure an accompanist for the competition.

  9. Students must provide a score for each of the three judges (copies of piano scores are acceptable)

  10. A student may not repeat the same repertoire from year to year.  Winners from previous years may not re-audition.

  12. The competition will be open to the public.

  13. The order of the competition will be decided at least one week prior to the competition date.
