Individual and Group Pedagogy for Strings

This comprehensive string pedagogy workshop will address essential issues relevant to both individual and group settings, including:

  • Tone production: The use of scales, etudes and double stops in the development of a beautiful tone
  • Advanced techniques: Continuing technical development through the introduction of the positions, shifting and vibrato
  • The use of scales in a classroom setting
  • Developing rhythmic and reading skills in the classroom

Fritz Gearhart is Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the University of Oregon School of Music where he also performs as a member of the Oregon Quartet. He holds the master's and bachelor's degrees in music from the Eastman School of Music. He is an active solo and chamber performer, including performances as a former member of the Chester String Quartet and the New York Chamber Ensemble. Nine compact discs featuring Mr. Gearhart have been released since 1992 on various labels. A dedicated music educator, Gearhart has been a featured clinician at music conventions and workshops throughout the United States. He has also conducted college orchestras at East Carolina University and the University of Oregon.
