This course will examine the role of culture in the Orff Process. This course will define culturally responsive pedagogy in the context of the Orff classroom and will focus on a variety of activities that will help music teachers improve their instruction. Basic pedagogical activities addressing many modalities, introduction to soprano recorder, and special culminating topics every day enrich the entire spectrum of the learning experience.
KATHY ROBINSON, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Alberta. Robinson is author of White Teachers, Students of Color: Culturally Responsive Pedagogy for Elementary General Music in Communities of Color and South Africa Sings: Choral Dance Songs from Galeshew. She is a frequent presenter at American Orff-Schulwerk Association events and has created many curricular connections in her work for Orff educators. She also contributed a chapter to the book Cultural Diversity in Music Education: Directions and Challenges for the 21st Century.
