Marching Band Procedures is a "grass roots" course. The content focuses on a basic approach to the total development of the modern marching band. It will include marching pedagogy, rehearsal methods, leadership, drill design, organization, and other related subject matter.
Gary E. Smith recently retired as Associate Director of Bands at the University of Illinois, where he led the nationally famous Marching Illini. Prof. Smith received his B.A. from Butler University and M.A. from Ball State University. In 1988 he was elected to membership in the prestigious American Bandmasters Association. He has served as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor throughout the United States. He is also the head clinician for Smith Walbridge band clinics and author of a marching band methods text entitled The System.
