group piano classes

Four levels of class instruction in piano are available. Priority is given to music students, but non-majors may also enroll with permission of the instructor. Music majors whose degree plans require a piano proficiency should enroll in Group Piano classes. Contact the instructor for information and placement at the appropriate level. Group Piano classes are taught in the Piano Lab, which contains 24 electronic pianos.

Group Piano I (MUS 111): Beginning repertoire and sight-reading, basic scale and chord patterns in major keys. For the complete beginner. Download Syllabus (Word doc., 64 KB).

Group Piano II (MUS 112): Late elementary repertoire, sight-reading moving out of the five-finger position, minor scale and chord patterns. Prerequisite: 111. Download Syllabus (Word doc., 64 KB).

Group Piano III (MUS 211): Intermediate repertoire, reading skill, chord and scale patterns. Prerequisite: 112. Download Syllabus (Word doc., 60 KB).

Group Piano IV (MUS 212): Late intermediate to early advanced repertoire and sightreading. Review of scales and chords. Prerequisite: 211. Download Syllabus (Word doc., 52 KB).
