Regarding test and grading:
The test on scales and juries apply to all students in preparation for hearings which are required for the completion of instrumental  music degrees. ( See Student Handbook

Attendance and Homework:
Attendance and awareness count towards grading.  It is important that you attend every lesson and concerts that are specified as required by the studio syllabus.  Each student will be allowed only ONE unexcused absence; each one after that will lower grades by one letter grade.  Any student that has three or more unexcused absences will receive a grade of F and will be removed from the studio.

In regards to homework, daily practice is expected.  Some listening and library research assignments will also be given.  Come to every lesson prepared with music, instrument, mouthpiece, pencil, and assignments.

If you will be unable to attend a lesson, please notify me by e-mail or leave a voice message.  If I know in advance, I can use that time for make-up lessons.

NOTE: Make-up lessons will be given at the teacher’s earliest convenience.

Course Requirements:

    1. Solo with piano accompaniment
    2. Contrasting etudes and sight reading
    3. Orchestral and Band excerpts
    4. All major and minor scales (Please note that all three forms of the minor scale are required).

All students are required to have a piano accompanist for all juries unless otherwise specified Students are responsible for getting the music to the accompanist as soon as a solo is determined. ALL STUDENTS must be heard in their lesson with their accompanist prior to juries.

Grade Distribution:

Grades will be distributed between test, attendance, and lesson preparation, following instructions, and jury.

Guidelines for Success:

As with any art form, developing fluency and proficiency is an evolving process. Therefore, consistent devotion to developing artistically is essential.  This means showing up for every lesson ready to give one hundred percent.  Every time you pick up your instrument and play, strive for your absolute best.  Life is too short to live in mediocrity.
