GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

There are 2 Graduate Assistantships available for trumpet. Assistantship includes performing with the University of New Mexico Graduate Brass Quintet, the UNM Wind Symphony, and/or the UNM Symphony Orchestra as needed. Additional duties may include assisting the faculty with brass fundamentals classes for music education majors, coaching undergraduate brass chamber music ensembles, teaching applied lessons for non-majors, and assisting the faculty with undergraduate recruitment. Total workload is 10 hours per week. This is a two-year (four-semester) half assistantship (contract is by semester, but renewable if work is satisfactory). Pay is approximately $6100 per academic year and includes a waiver of tuition (exclusive of special course fees) for up to 6 credits per semester (fall and spring). Any additional hours can be taken at the in-state tuition rate.

The UNM Graduate Brass Quintet receives regular coaching with members of the UNM Brass Faculty and principal brass players in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and assists the Department of Music in the recruitment of undergraduate students through performances and clinics in area high schools.
