RECITAL ATTENDANCE

All undergraduate music majors are required to take a prescribed number of semesters of MUS 101 Concert Music as part of their degree programs.  Students pursuing the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts must enroll for 6 semesters; students pursuing the Bachelor of Music Education must enroll for 4 semesters.  This class meets on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. in Keller Hall, and consists of performances, usually by other students.  The class has 0 credit hours, and must be passed with a grade of “Credit” to count toward the degree.

To fulfill class requirements, a minimum of 15 performances must be attended by the student during the semester.  Performances which count toward the requirements include 1) attendance at the Thursday 2:00 p.m. class time, or 2) any event on campus which is sponsored by the Department of Music, including student recitals in Keller Hall, recitals by guest artists in Keller Hall, and student ensemble concerts (band, orchestra, chorus) in Popejoy Hall, Keller Hall, Rodey Theatre, Woodward Hall, or the UNM Ballroom.  Students can receive one recital credit for performing in a concert.  Multiple performances of the same concert (e.g., Opera, Wind Symphony, Choir, etc.) may earn nor more than two credits toward the 15 required for the semester.

All transfer students with 62 hours or more of transferred credit must complete two semesters of MUS 101 with a grade of “Credit.”

Students failing to meet the above requirements will not be permitted to graduate.

RECITAL ATTENDANCE SLIP POLICY:

  • Student must pick up a recital attendance slip upon entering a performance and return it at the end of the completed performance.  Attendance slips will not be accepted before the end of the performance.
  • Students getting recital attendance credit for a Music Appreciation class must present their programs to be stamped as they enter and as they leave the performance.
  • Students performing on a recital may turn in a copy of the program in place of an attendance slip.
  • Latecomers will not be given an attendance slip.  Anyone entering the performance hall after the first natural break in the music will be considered late and will not receive an attendance slip.
