Students meeting general UNM admission requirements will begin music classes as freshmen in the University College. Curriculum usually includes private lessons, theory, eartraining, a major ensemble, and enrollment in MUS 101 Concert Music. After completing 26 hours in University College with a grade point average of 2.5 or better, a student may apply for formal admission to the College of Fine Arts and should declare a major in music at that time. The music faculty will help a student decide which degree program is most appropriate.
