In order to graduate , you will need to submit the "Program of Studies Form" and have it approved by the Office of Graduate Studies. The POS cannot be filed until you have done the following:
- completed MUS 531 Bibliography and Research, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (Note: Bibliography and Research is not required for the Concentration in Music Education)
- satisfied any foreign language or diction requirements particular to your degree plan
Once the above requirements have been satisfied, the Program of Studies form may be filed with the Office of Graduate Studies at any time after you are admitted to the graduate program, and MUST be submitted no later than the semester before you expect to complete degree requirements by the following deadlines:
- July 1 for Fall graduation
- October 1 for Spring graduation
- March 1 for Summer graduation
The Program of Studies form is available from the Department of Music website or from the Office of Graduate Studies website. Be sure to use the new form, revised 6/1/06. Consult with the Graduate Coordinator when filling out this form to make sure your proposed course of study meets the requirements of your degree plan. The form must be signed by the Graduate Coordinator and Department Chair, and must be approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies before you can give your graduate recital or schedule your oral exam or thesis defense.
If you change coursework or make a substitution for a required course, a memo signed by the Graduate Coordinator, the Department Chair and appropriate faculty must be submitted to the Dean of Graduate Studies. If you change the level of your program from Plan I to Plan II, or vice versa, you must submit a revised Program of Studies form. If you have "stopped out" and had to apply for readmission, you must submit a revised Program of Studies form.
