An art and writing 'check-in' for staff breakrooms

This busy life creates an environment of disconnect because we can never catch up. This can result in unexplainable moodiness, withdrawal, and stress. The following activity is a quick and simple way to check in with 'the self' and realign our center so we can continue more productively. The more serious you are about play and relaxation the more powerful your productivity will be!

Materials:  Any type of colored or white paper, oil pastels, crayons, colored pencils, writing pens.

Instructions

1)  Think of your theme word of the day. This is a word, phrase, or feeling that best describes what is on your mind, or how your day is going. (Sad, frustrated, exhausted, seeking, pissed, cold, etc.)

2)  Pick a few colors. Write the word/phrase anywhere on a piece of paper.

3)  Spend a few minutes doodling, scribbling, drawing, and coloring.

4)  Turn your paper over and do a one minute freewrite. Don't worry about spelling or grammar, or whether it makes sense. Just keep your pen going and write!

5)  Reflect on your work and pick out the images, colors, and words that have the most 'grab'. Take note by underlining.

This process will provide you information to catch up with yourself and get an objective perspective and validation, thus creating a sense of centeredness which results in lower stress and increased productivity. If some images and words come up that have significance to you, do this again around them. Change and explore them. They will provide a wealth of energetic flow and connection.
